Leadership journeys for young women through sport
105 women leaders | 20 communities | 12 states in India | #YesSheCan
Meet Meena Thaniyan, a sports coach working with indigenous tribal communities in South India.
As a single mother, homemaker and sole breadwinner for her family, Meena's day job is to teach ultimate frisbee for a sport-for-development program that reaches more than 800 indigenous children. Like her, 104 other women are game-changing role models in their own communities across India. These women traveled to the U.S. for a leadership development camp run by Ultimate Peace in the first week of July. At the camp, Meena and her cohort alongside experienced American coaches, coached teenagers from diverse backgrounds - enhancing their knowledge and strengthening leadership skills. After camp, they traveled back to India to lead Project GameChangers - a unique leadership program for women. A collaboration between Ultimate Peace, U.S. Department of State and India Ultimate, the project aims to develop over 100 women coaches in India by summer of 2025. In our mission to empower young Indian women coaches in their leadership journey, we seek support for these 12 remarkable women .
